The venue’s 11,000 square-foot indoor Pavilion building will host a market of 26 local artist pop-ups throughout the day, 14 various acoustic acts, and beverages served by Upland Brewery, ensuring that there’s something to pique every guest’s interest. Surrounding outdoor spaces will include parking for attendees as well as a variety of food trucks and stands serving local fare, and activities designed for all ages to enjoy will be spread throughout the park.

Burning Couch was first held in April 2022 to massive success, with the event exposing over 1,200 people to Bloomington’s talent and creativity. This year’s festival plans to scale up significantly and reach a much larger audience, with Al-Awadi stating, “The purpose driving Burning Couch is bringing Bloomington's artists to a new level, which is why we chose a space as large and accessible as Switchyard Park”.  Having received $13.2k in funding from community support and sponsorships, Music Industry Creatives is excited to see the event reach new heights and inspire more people to support their local artists.

Music Industry Creatives at Indiana University Presents Burning Couch

[Bloomington, Indiana] — Music Industry Creatives (MIC), a student-run organization at Indiana University, proudly presents Burning Couch Festival 2023 on Sunday, April 16 at Switchyard Park. The event, a celebration of Bloomington’s local music community, will feature 35 up and coming artists across three stages in addition to multiple vendors spread throughout the park.

This year’s lineup represents genres ranging from indie rock to jazz-infused hip hop, with MIC president Ahmed al-Awadi describing the experience as one of “many diverse sounds, textures, and genres”.  Main stage performances will include sets from a varied group of artists such as indie-folk band Westhead and post-hardcore duo LUNG, with intermissions featuring dancers from InMotion Dance Company. The all-day event will also feature a skate-jam partnered with Rhett Skateboarding and WIUX; visitors can look forward to a cypher hosted by local 6 MCs right at the skatepark.
